At The Ava House we believe in making a difference in our community.
Anyone that knows us, know of our passion for helping animals in need. The issues impacting animals today are numerous and complicated. Ranging from local and regional to national and global, they affect the full spectrum of animal species, including companion animals, captive and free-ranging wildlife, farmed animals and animals used in research, among others. Despite a clear need for animal protection, the environment/animal programs area receives the smallest share of U.S. philanthropic dollars, a mere 3 percent of total giving.
Fortunately, there are many organizations and individuals committed to solving these problems like Cheryl Flanagan and her team at “Save the Horses” located in Cumming, Georgia. Cheryl was a 4H and US Pony Club leader in the 1980’s when she first started taking horses from the Tampa Bay Downs Racetrack. Over time, more people started calling to donate horses that they were unable to care for. Cheryl worked with local law enforcement, with abandoned and neglected horses, and it just kept on growing. It has continued to grow into an amazing organization thanks to all of the supporters and volunteers who are dedicated to the efforts of saving horses and other animals in need.
The Ava House is committed to donating 2% of our total revenues to Save The Horses, to help provide rehabilitation and adoption services for abused, neglected, abandoned and unwanted horses. Save the Horses doesn’t receive any government funds, they simply rely heavily on the generosity of the public for funds to care for more than 100 neglected and abused animals.
